For as long as I can remember, I have been fascinated with electricity and how it can be used to accomplish so much. This eventually led me to earn an advanced diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology from Algonquin College. My current job title is Electro-Mechanical Technician at a company called Sightline Process Control Inc. We specialize in 3D/color vision systems and custom automation solutions for some of the world’s largest manufacturers.

My job consists of building 3D vision systems, designing electrical panels and custom automation machines, and PLC programming.

Daily responsibilities I love include:

  • Create, test and modify Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) programs to meet customer requirements
  • Create, test and modify human machine interface (HMI)
  • Troubleshoot automation equipment (HMI, PLC, VFDs and hardware circuits)

  • Provide technical assistance and resolutions when electrical or engineering problems are encountered before, during, and after system construction
